Yasmeen Weems — a Maplewood resident, South Orange Middle School parent and beloved mother of Zamir — passed away on August 5, 2019.
“Yasmeen was an amazing single mom who raised one of the best kids I know,” Yasmeen’s friend Eileen Campos wrote on the SOMS families Facebook page. Others commented in the post: “such a lovely woman,” “always warm and kind, and the best mother.”
Yasmeen moved to Maplewood from Newark, NJ in 2015. She worked for Newark Public Schools and Paterson Public Schools as a School Psychologist. She held a BA from Virginia Union in Special Education and two Masters Degrees — one in school Psychology and the other in Clinical Psychology — from Lehigh University. “She loved Maplewood,” said Campos. “She contributed to this community as much as her busy schedule would allow, and she really loved it here.”
